Carnival Atmosphere Promotes Volunteer Organizations

Sept. 17, 2010--The University of Wisconsin-River Falls and Rock the Cause will present Cirque Du Serve, an event featuring area non-profit organizations, on Sept. 25 at 3 p.m. at the Melvin Wall Amphitheatre on campus.

Cirque du Serve features a carnival of charitable organizations, music and entertainment, offering an opportunity to learn about the numerous volunteer opportunities in the River Falls area. Free henna tattoos, face painting, cotton candy, and snow cones will be provided to spectators.

Artists "Not Like This!", "Solid Gold" and local favorite, Roster McCabe, will rock both the band shell and a side stage. A special performance by the Golden Dragon Acrobats, an acrobatic troupe from China, will take place at 5 p.m.

Cirque du Serve is part of Rock the Cause, a campus program that serves to spread awareness and activism among colleges and their surrounding communities. By offering a variety of organizations in the area that want to promote their cause and recruit volunteers, Cirque Du Serve will focus on inspiring students and area residents to get involved.

“We are excited to be collaborating with Rock the Cause on the Cirque Du Serve event. It will be a circus of a day, filled with incredible entertainment and, most importantly, information from local non-profits on how our students and community members can give back in our region,” says Karyn Wells, event coordinator at UWRF.

In case of rain, Cirque du Serve will be held at the Falcon’s Nest in the University Center, and the Golden Dragon Acrobats rain site will be Abbott Concert Hall in the Kleinpell Fine Arts building.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact karyn.wells@uwrf.edu or call 715-425-4444.
