CAS Offers Financial Help for International Travel

Feb. 19, 2010-- The University of Wisconsin-River Falls College of Arts and Sciences offers stipends to support students participating in UWRF-sponsored or approved international study abroad programs. To help the traveling students, each stipend can be up to $1,000. These stipends are available thanks to generous donations made by alumni and friends of UWRF. 

Eligibility of the stipends depends upon certain qualifications that include: one full semester as a current, declared major in the College of Arts and Sciences, completion of 45 credits by the time of application, participation in a UWRF sponsored study abroad program, minimum GPA of 2.75, and a letter of recommendation from a faculty advisor or a faculty member familiar with the student’s academic plan and work as a student.

This semester, 16 students were granted a stipend. These students are:

Laurel Corbett, a junior broad field studies major from Park Falls, traveling to Costa Rica.
Elizabeth Denkinger, a senior physics major from St. Paul, Minn., traveling to German-speaking Europe.
Julie Fischer, a senior fine arts major from Birnamwood, traveling to Mexico.
Ryan Hidlebaugh, a junior history major from Cottage Grove, Minn., traveling to Belize.
Brianna Klaras, a sophomore political science major from Champlin, Minn., traveling to Mexico.
Rashad Momoh, a junior biology major from Little Canada, Minn., traveling with the International Traveling Classroom
Elizabeth Pawlenty, a senior art major from Stillwater, Minn., traveling to Italy.
Samantha Powell, a junior art education major from Butternut, traveling to Egypt through Journey to Egypt.
Nathan Rudnick, a senior biotechnology major from Pulaski, traveling to Costa Rica.
Shannon Sommer, a junior psychology major from Rogers, Minn., traveling to Mexico.
Samantha Strehlow, a junior biology major from Hurley, traveling to Egypt through Journey to Egypt.
Diana Vang, a senior journalism major from Appleton, traveling to Mexico.
Abbie Jean Walsh, a senior political science major from Lake Elmo, Minn., traveling to German-speaking Europe.
Madeline Weber, a junior theatre arts major from Edgerton, traveling with the International Traveling Classroom.
