Four UWRF Horticulture Majors Receive MNLA Scholarships
Feb. 15, 2010 -- Four UWRF horticulture majors recently received $1,000 scholarships sponsored by the Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association (MNLA) Foundation. Recipients are senior Tiffany Nohl of Kiel, junior Kyle McCarville of Mineral Point, junior Heather Lee of Milaca, Minn., and senior Richard Hoff of Janesville.
The MNLA scholarship program recognizes superior students enrolled in horticultural, nursery or landscape studies programs at several area colleges and universities. The scholarships are designed by MNLA and its member companies to help grow future leaders in the nursery and landscape industry.
Nohl’s scholarship was sponsored by Mickman Brothers, Inc., based in Ham Lake; McCarville’s scholarship was sponsored by Law's Nursery, Inc., based in Hastings, Minn.; Linder’s Garden Center and Greenhouse, based in St. Paul, sponsored the Robin D. Linder Memorial Scholarship for Lee; and Hoff’s scholarship was sponsored by Bailey Nurseries, based in St. Paul.
To be eligible for an MNLA scholarship, applicants must possess a certain grade average, present letters of recommendation from instructors and employers, and submit an essay stating career goals and objectives. The MNLA is the state’s largest green industry trade association with over 1,500 member companies. Members include nurseries, garden centers, landscape contractors, landscape designers, irrigation contractors, commercial flower growers, tree care specialists, professional gardening services, and turf and landscape management professionals.
