Tax Assistance Offered by UWRF Students and WESTconsin Credit Union

Feb. 4, 2010 --Free, confidential income tax return preparation assistance is available from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Student Accounting Society and the WESTconsin Credit Union for individuals with an income of less than $30,000 per year.

Help sessions will be held Feb. 11 and 25 and March 4 and 11 from 6 to 9 p.m. at WESTconsin Credit Union, 1207 North Main Street, River Falls. Individuals are asked to bring W-2 and 1099 forms as well as dependent(s) social security number(s), day-care forms and last year's tax return.

Sign-up sheets for the volunteers from the Student Accounting Society indicate that 20-30 students will be assisting with the tax preparation, according to Steve DeWald, adjunct professor in the College of Business and Economics who teaches a federal taxation class and director of the Small Business Development Center at UWRF.

Students will be prepared to help about 15-20 people per evening with their taxes on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, contact DeWald at 715-425-0620 or email steven.e.dewald@uwrf.edu.
