Additional Egypt Trip Set for Spring Break

NOV. 9, 2009 | The University of Wisconsin-River Falls is offering students, faculty and the public an additional opportunity to embark on a journey to the land of pharaohs and pyramids during Spring Break, March 12-24, 2010. A study trip set for Jan. 11-23 is filled, according to Steven Derfler, an art history professor at UWRF who leads the study tour.

"Perhaps no other civilization has captured as many hearts and minds of the western world as ancient Egypt," says Derfler. “This ancient land became the world leader in art and architecture, science and industry and religion and philosophy."

The trip includes visits to major cities, a Nile River cruise and an air excursion to Abu Simbel. Participants will explore pyramids, temples, tombs, the Citadel, Sphinx, Valley of the Kings and more.

Cost is $3,950 plus tuition for students who are enrolled for credit. The tour is open to the public as well as students. This all-inclusive package includes round-trip airfare from New York, all entrance fees, meals, domestic transportation, air tour to Abu Simbel five-star accommodations including cruise ship with private bath, transfers, hotel taxes, and porterage at airports and hotels.

A historian and archaeologist, Derfler has researched ancient civilizations and participated in excavations for more than two decades. He has also been involved with educational institutions in Israel and the Midwest, and his articles and reviews have been published in magazines and newspapers such as the Israel Exploration Journal and the Middle East Review.
