Senior Art Show to be Held
NOV. 9, 2009 | University of Wisconsin-River Falls art students Tom Fritchen (right) and Christy Nelson will be exhibiting their senior show in fulfillment of B.F.A. degree requirements at Gallery 101 in the Kleinpell Fine Art Building Nov. 19 - 24. A reception will be on Friday, Nov. 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. in Gallery 101.
Fritchen’s collection titled, “My Isolation,” is an exploration of self-fulfillment through painting figurative gestures. He reflects societies' habits of isolation and both its healthy and unhealthy results. He combines the use of classic techniques and personal style to narrate a story. Fritchen is a BFA candidate from Racine.
Nelson’s collection titled, “Just Beginning,” is a study of techniques in rug weaving. She has created many styles of rugs using hand-dyed wool and cotton fabric. Her ability to make rugs that she can walk on, touch and be interactive with is very important to her, she says. She believes in making useful, attractive and strong textiles that are well designed and carefully executed. Nelson is a BFA candidate and art education student from Woodbury, Minn.
The gallery and reception is free and open to the public. Gallery 101 hours are Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. For more information call the UWRF art department at 715.425.3266.
