Student Work Featured in UWRF Gallery 101

OCT. 23, 2009 | University of Wisconsin-River Falls student artist Shelby Sand will be present her Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibition in Gallery 101 at the Kleinpell Fine Arts Building Nov. 8-15. An opening reception is Friday, Nov. 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the gallery and KFA lobby.

Sand, a senior from Andover, Minn., and previously from Grand Forks, ND, will display a variety of works in the disciplines of printmaking, photography and drawing focusing on concepts of gender roles.

Sand incorporates photographs and nontraditional materials such as sewing patterns and paper dolls as well as female symbols and historic female figures in her prints. She draws from her own experience as a female in today’s society to relate to the viewers past, present and future. The show has an underlying theme drawing attention to conformity in relationship to gender roles.

The event is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Friday, 2-4 p.m. Sunday. For more information call the UWRF art department at 715-425-3266.
