Noncredit Classes Offered

SEPT. 21, 2009 | The University of Wisconsin-River Falls Outreach and graduate studies office is hosting several noncredit classes including Spanish, art, astronomy and current events for the community.

Tuesdays, Oct. 6, 13, 20, 27, Nov. 3, 10: Morning With a Professor, 9 – 11 a.m., Kinnickinnic Theater, University Center, UWRF, $44. Lecture series featuring University professors who share their expertise on a broad variety of topics including current and historical events and contemporary issues.
*Oct. 6: Economics Professor Brian Schultz, “Economic Stimulus: Is it Working?”
*Oct. 13: Political Science Professor Neil Kraus, “The Politics of Health Care Reform” *Oct. 20: English Professor Elizabeth Schneider-Rebozo, “Samuel Beckett /Act Without Words"
*Oct. 27: Biology Professor Karen Klyczek, “Novel H1N1 Influenza Virus Outbreak: Return of the Swine Flu”
*Nov. 3: Risk Management Office Connie Smith, “Nano Particles: The New Asbestos?”
*Nov. 10: Communication and Theater Arts Professor Gorden Hedahl, “The Wide World of Cinema: Read Any Good Books Lately?” Each two-hour session includes a thought-provoking presentation, coffee break with light refreshments, and the opportunity to share your own insights and inquiries in an open "question and answer" forum.

CANCELLED 9/28/09: Tuesdays, Oct. 6, 20 & 27: A Tour of the Night Sky, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., Ag Science Hall Planetarium and Observatory, 271 Centennial Science Hall, UWRF, (class comprised of three meetings), $59. Learn about beauty of the night, use a star map to locate stars and constellations, find objects within and beyond the Solar System, and discuss the list of Messier objects. Includes time in both the classroom and planetarium. UWRF physics Professor Eileen Korenic enjoys sharing the mythology and "inside scoop" of astronomy jokes and stories.

CANCELLED 10/12/09: Mondays, Oct. 19, 26 & Nov. 2: Pastel Painting Studio, 6:30-9 p.m., Room 129, RDI building, UWRF, (class comprised of three sessions), $89 + supplies. Explore the luminous colors of pastel as you paint and create at your own pace. Participants received individual instruction in a studio environment. Instructor Denise Bunkert will meet you where you are in the learning process, and take you to the next level of painting. Bring ideas and photos, your supplies and your creativity. All experience levels welcome. Supply list available on the Outreach web page; advance registration required. Saturdays, Oct. 24 & Nov. 7: Pastel Painting - Landscapes Workshop, (class comprised of two sessions), 10:30 a.m. -3 p.m., 129 RDI building, UWRF. $89 + supplies. Discover the process of creating landscape paintings with instructor Denise Bunkert. Explore the elements of composition, value and edges. Paint the pastel landscape, water and reflections in a landscape. Previous pastel painting experience is helpful. Instruction includes both demonstration and individual guidance. Bring ideas and photos, supplies, creativity and a bag lunch. Supply list available on the Outreach web page; advance registration required. CANCELLED 9/28/09: Thursdays, Sept. 17 – Nov. 19: Spanish, 6-7 p.m., (Class runs for 10 Thursdays), Room 129, RDI building, UWRF. $119. This non-credit adult-enrichment class offers practical, proficiency-based Spanish language blending culture, vocabulary and grammar.
