Wisconsin Alumni to Gather at Farm Technology Days 2009
JULY 6, 2009 | University of Wisconsin alumni are invited to gather during Wisconsin Farm Technology Days in Dodge County, July 21-23, at a special tent for UW universities and colleges alumni. The Wisconsin Alumni Tent is being jointly sponsored by the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) and the University of Wisconsin (UW) campuses at Madison, Platteville and River Falls.
Alumni from each campus and others affiliated with the UW and WTCS are welcome to come by to enjoy refreshments, see old friends, visit with former professors and learn about what's new at their alma maters. UW-River Falls and UW-Madison will formally welcome their alumni at the tent between 11 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. each day. From 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. each day, alumni from UW-Platteville and WCTS will be welcomed.
The alumni tent will be located in the southwest corner of tent city by the agribusiness tents, adjacent to Agribusiness Tent F along Central Avenue near Gate D. Participating campuses will offer brief programs and/or share updates about their respective campuses.
UW-Madison alumni may look forward to catching up on happenings within the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS). They will have the opportunity to visit with Dean Molly Jahn on Thursday and meet Ben Brancel, former director of the Farm Service Agency for Wisconsin and current state relations liaison for CALS, on Wednesday. Other special guests from CALS are expected to attend the daily alumni gathering as schedules permit.
Dale Gallenberg, dean of the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences at UW-River Falls, will welcome alumni each day, and will be accompanied by new UWRF Chancellor Dean Van Galen on Thursday. Van Galen, who returns to Wisconsin after his most recent post as vice president of advancement at the University of West Florida, Pensacola, is a native of Waupun and a graduate of UW-Whitewater. Several current and retired faculty members will also be on hand each day to welcome former students, too.
Several faculty from the School of Agriculture at UW-Platteville will be participating. They will share updates about the changes taking place on their campus and in the college.
The first on-site reception for UW and WTCS alumni was held at Farm Tech Days in 2008, and organizers say they were pleased by the turnout and hope to make the Wisconsin Alumni Tent an ongoing tradition.
