Student Receives Scholar Award from Crop Society

JUNE 5, 2009 | University of Wisconsin River Falls junior Jason Cavadini, from Bangor, has been selected to the Golden Opportunity Scholar Institute program, provided through the Crop Science Society of America (CSSA).

This program provides an opportunity for undergraduate students to attend the annual meeting of CSSA and work with a mentor on a scholarly project to present their findings. Cavadini, who is majoring in crop and soil science with an emphasis in soil science, is conducting an experiment pertaining to soil erosion in differing soybean row-spacing during summer 2009.

He will present his findings at the national Students of Agronomy, Soils, and Environmental Sciences (SASES) convention in Pittsburgh in November. SASES is an undergraduate student organization of CSSA, the American Society of Agronomy (ASA), and the Soil Science Society of America (SSSA). On campus, Cavadini is the vice president of fundraising for the UWRF Crop and Soil Science Club.

He also competed in the 2009 National Soils Judging Contest with the UWRF Soils Judging Team.
