Music With Flair Concert
APRIL17, 2009 | The St. Croix Valley Symphony Orchestra will present “Music With Flair” at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls on Monday, April 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the Abbott Concert Hall, Kleinpell Fine Arts building. Tickets, at the door, are $5 for adults; $3 for students with I.D. and seniors, and $2 for children.
The concert will feature Minnesota Orchestra's Manny Laureano on trumpet, JungHoon Lee from Seoul, Korea, singing soprano and UWRF senior Kevin Priebe playing piano.
The concert music of Bach, Puccini and selections from “South of the Border” by Jose Pablo Moncayo and Manuel de Falla will be played.
Directed by music Professor Kristin Tjornehoj, the 55-member ensemble will feature guest soloist Manny Laureano in “La Virgin de la Macarena.”
Laureano joined the Minnesota Orchestra in 1981, and has performed solos in all of the Orchestra's concert series and served as an assistant conductor during the 2005-06 season. In demand as a conductor, Laureano serves as co-music director of the Minnesota Youth Symphonies with his wife, Claudette. He will be a guest conductor for the St. Croix Valley Symphony Orchestra for “Hupano” by Moncayo and “Danse Rituelle du Feu” (Ritual Fire Dance) from “El Amor Brujo” by de Falla.
JungHoon Lee, a visiting artist from Seoul, Korea, is participating in the international musical arts program at UWRF. Lee is an active performer in the area of church music as a soloist, chorister and conductor. She is principal soloist with the Seoul Grand Chorus, Lampas Choir and Seoul KumRan Church. JungHoon will perform “La Rondine” from “Chi Il Bel Sogno” by Puccini and a traditional Korean folk song.
Kevin Priebe, of Champlin, Minn., will graduate this year from UWRF with a major in piano performance this spring. A student of UWRF music Professor Carolyn Britton, Priebe plans to attend graduate school for piano performance next fall. Priebe will be featured on the “Piano Concerto No. 1 in D minor, BWV 1052” by Johann Sebastian Bach.
