Noted Authors to Speak at UWRF
MARCH 27, 2009 | Noted writers Freya Manfred and Marisha Chamberlain will speak at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Student Reading Series on April 2 from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Chalmer Davee Library Breezeway on campus. The event, free and open to the public, is sponsored by Literary Magazine Review, which is headquartered in the English Department at UWRF.
Manfred's work has appeared in more than 100 reviews and magazines and in more than 30 anthologies. Chamberlain is known as a novelist, playwright, poet and librettist. Her plays have appeared internationally including North America, Germany, South Africa, Turkey and the United Kingdom.
James Wilcox of The New York Times Book Review, wrote of Chamberlain's "The Rose Variations": "a novel graced by a profound respect for the humble particulars of life." Novelist Philip Roth said Manfred "always startles me by how close she gets to everything she sees. That's her tough luck, but it makes her a wonderful poet."
