SBDC Offers Entrepreneurial Training Program

JAN. 23, 2009--The Small Business Development Center at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls is offering a 12-week Entrepreneurial Training Program starting Tuesday, Feb. 17 in room 318 South Hall at UW River Falls. The course consists of 12 sessions, held Tuesdays from 6 to 9 p.m. through May 12.

The course fee of $250 course fee includes a comprehensive reference book, workbook and all class handouts. Curriculum materials from the NXLeveL™ Entrepreneurs course will be used in the program, which is designed to encourage business expansion decisions and activities. The courses focuses on teaching the art of better business practices while producing a comprehensive business plan.

"The plan is written in small, easy to write pieces which evolves into a complete business plan," says Steve DeWald, the course instructor and director of the UWRF SBDC. "Additionally, the entrepreneur learns about many aspects of business which are important in managing and growing a business."

The curriculum of the course will allow entrepreneurs to gain an understanding of the NXLeveL™ Business Plan, explore legal and organizational topics, learn key concepts of analyzing their specific market and develop market strategies. Participants will also examine books and records and how they affect the business, understand how to develop and derive feedback from budgets, evaluate financial options and determine which are best, as well as explore growth and plan completion.

At the conclusion of the course, students will have a completed business plan.

The Small Business Development Center also offers free confidential counseling sessions for persons interested in starting a business, expanding their business or needing assistance with business-related issues. Those interested in registering for the course can call the UW-River Falls SBDC office at 715-425-0620. For additional information on the course or to set an appointment for a counseling session contact DeWald (steven.e.dewald@uwrf.edu).
