Falcon Foods Offers Holiday Cheeses, Ice Cream
DEC. 12, 2008--The University of Wisconsin-River Falls Falcon Foods is open for the holidays and features foods made by students in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences.
The store, which began operation in 1983, offers dairy and meat products produced by some 20 students who are employed at the pilot food plants.
While the supply of smoked turkeys has already been reserved for the holiday season, Falcon Foods still has plenty of cheese, ice cream and meat, including snack sticks.
More than 30 cheeses, including Cajun spice, smoked and pepper are available, as well as the newest variety, an artisan cheese called Cobblestone Red, made with a white Cheddar curd and a Rouge wine from Chateau St. Croix Winery and Vineyard in St. Croix Falls. Several varieties are sold in gift packs. Ice cream, including holiday-themed flavors such as cinnamon, pumpkin and peppermint stick, is available as well.
The store is open Monday-Friday from 1 to 5 p.m., in Room 149 of the Food Science Building, located off Cascade Avenue on Spruce Street, River Falls.
UWRF is located 30 miles east of the Twin Cities and was established in 1874. The campus has about 6,500 students including some 400 graduate students. Its College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences includes two laboratory farms, and Falcon Foods product ingredients are locally sourced when possible, including from the campus lab farms.
