By Lacy Lukaszewicz
SEPT. 12, 2008-- The University of Wisconsin-River Falls Foundation is celebrating its 60th anniversary on Wednesday, Sept. 17 in the Riverview Ballroom of the University Center. A reception begins at 5:30 p.m. with dinner to follow. During the reception, students will share their projects in undergraduate research, along with other scholarly and creative activities.
Following dinner, attendees will hear a speech by UWRF alumna Roxanne Emmerich. Emmerich is a nationally renowned entrepreneur, business consultant, and motivational speaker. She graduated from UWRF in 1981 with a degree in agricultural business.
In 1988 she founded the Emmerich Group, Inc., working as a business strategist and consultant, presenting speeches and developing audio-video training systems for hundreds of clients. Building on what she learned, in 1997 she began a career in banking and founded her own financial institution with a partner. Today her bank, North American Banking Company in St. Paul, is an $80-million bank holding company. Emmerich is now one of the 12 most requested speakers in the country for national sales meetings and has twice been voted Entrepreneur of the Year.
The UWRF Foundation is a separate nonprofit organization with a sole mission is to support the University. In 1948 its Articles of Incorporation were signed and since then, the UWRF Foundation has accomplished many firsts, such as being the first state college foundation in Wisconsin.
The UWRF Foundation has also launched many programs that augment the academic mission of the University, such as faculty grants for teaching and research, and distinguished teaching awards. In 2008 the UWRF Foundation awarded 583 scholarships in excess of $500,000; just 10 years ago the sum was 474 scholarships totaling $275,000.
