UWRF Offers Noncredit Classes This Fall


AUG. 22, 2008--The University of Wisconsin-River Falls is offering three non-credit classes this fall.

"Painting with Acrylics" is 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, starting Sept. 23 and running for eights weeks through Nov. 11 in Room 120, South Hall on the UWRF campus. Mary Perrizo Peterson, an experienced teacher, artist and mentor, will offer instruction on the preparation of preliminary sketches and brush techniques as well as the basics of perspective, color and composition. The course is open to both beginners with little or no experience and advanced painters.

Peterson is a graduate of UWRF and enrolled in the M.S.E. fine arts education program at UWRF. She teaches drawing and painting to students of all ages and abilities at her studio in Prescott. She has worked as an art therapist at Turning Point women's Crisis Center, been an artist-in-residence at Meyer Middle School, and a board member of River Falls Community Arts Base. Fee is $149 plus supplies.  

"Beginning Spanish" is a practical, proficiency-bases class blending culture, vocabulary, grammar in a relaxed setting. The course is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Mondays, starting Sept. 29 and ending Nov. 17 in Room 129 of the RDI building. Instructor Angela Brown will present creative, communication-oriented activities typical of situations one might encounter in a Spanish-speaking environment. The course is an ideal

Having taught courses at UWRF before, Brown has spent the past nine months in Mexico and has used her language talents as a high school Spanish teacher and a translator for a law firm in Florida. The fee is $139 plus text and audio CD "Spanish in 10 Minutes a Day" by Kristine Kershul. The text and CD can be purchased in the Falcon Shop/UWRF bookstore in the University Center.

"Continuing Spanish" is a continued exploration of the culture, vocabulary and grammar to strengthen Spanish-speaking skills. It's an ideal continuation for students who complete the "Beginning Spanish" class or a similar course elsewhere. The course runs eight Wednesdays, Oct. 1 to Nov. 19, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and is also taught by Brown. The fee is $139 plus text and audio CD "Spanish in 10 Minutes a Day" by Kristine Kershul. The text and CD can be purchased in the Falcon Shop/UWRF bookstore in the University Center.
