Fraternity and Sorority Life Awards Announced
JULY 23, 2008--The UWRF fraternity and sorority community announced its annual Life Awards to acknowledge the accomplishments of its members for the past school year.
Derek Husmoen, an agricultural engineering technology major from Arcadia, received the Greek Man of the Year honor. Husmoen is the Noble Ruler of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, a member of Alpha Zeta, the honorary agricultural fraternity, and is on the CAFES Student Advisory Council at UWRF. He is also a McNair scholar.
The Greek Woman of the Year was awarded to Maria Hockert, a pre-professional major from Circle Pines, Minn. Hockert is the president and was voted Sister of the Year of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. She is on the Greek Life Council, held the position of chair for the Greek Programming Board, and is also the president of the Women's Lacrosse team at UWRF.
Elizabeth Jensen, of the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority and a marketing communications major from Oakdale, Minn. , was awarded the Selfless Helper Award.
Tanya Reuter, of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority and a biology major from Hastings, Minn., along with Aaron Taylor, of the Theta Chi fraternity and a chemistry major from Sun Prairie, were awarded the Unsung Hero Award.
The Outstanding Chapter President Award went to Cassie Parsons, of the Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority and an elementary education major from Red Wing, Minn.
The Outstanding Panhellenic Council Member was awarded to Kimberly Betzold, of the Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority and a pre-professional major from Andover, Minn.
Benjamin Casper, of the Delta Theta Sigma fraternity and a political science major from River Falls, received honors as the Outstanding Interfraternity Council Member.
Lauren LaFond, of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority and marketing communications major from Red Wing, Minn., along with Danielle Boyum, of the Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority and marketing communications major from Northfield, Minn., were awarded Outstanding Greek Programming Board Members.
Outstanding Freshman went to Amy Bartusek, of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority and a psychology major from New Prague, Minn.
Lauren Chapman, of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority and a modern language major from Hastings, Minn., along with Casper were awarded Outstanding Sophomore.
Outstanding Junior went to Samantha Roach, of the Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority and a pre-professional major from St. Croix Falls.
Abby Lanoux, of the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority and a mathematics major from Oakdale, Minn., along with Derek Brandt, of the Theta Chi fraternity and a history major from St. Paul, Minn., were awarded Outstanding Senior.
The Outstanding Alumni Service Award went to Sara Gliniany from St. Paul.
The Outstanding Chapter Advisor was awarded to Jodi Byington, of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. The Outstanding Faculty Member was awarded to James Graham of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity.
Seniors who achieved a cumulative 3.75 GPA or higher through college were also awarded. This included: Sarah Joseph, of the Sigma Alpha sorority and dairy science major from Ellsworth; Robert Moody, of the Theta Chi fraternity and music major from River Falls; David Tollefson, of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and environmental science major from Waseca, Minn.; Heidi Woods, of the Sigma Alpha sorority and a physics major from Frederic.
Twenty-nine students also received academic honors for earning a 3.5 GPA or higher during the 2007 spring and fall semesters.
