College of Education and Professional Studies Awards Given
JULY 11, 2008--Students, cooperating professionals and faculty/staff were honored in by the University of Wisconsin-River Falls College of Education and Professional Studies at the end of the spring semester.
Interim Dean Faye Perkins welcomed the awardees to an ice cream social on the patio of the Wyman Education Building.
Receiving the Rochelle Junkman Seymour Award for the top GPA among a graduating senior in the college was Gayle McDougall (left, hugged by Gay Ward, associate professor of teacher education) of Woodruff. She also received the outstanding undergraduate student award in the early childhood education.
Others who received outstanding undergraduate students awards in their respective department included: Amy Strom of Red Wing, Minn., in communicative disorders; Ryan Stridde of Franklin, in health and human performance/physical education; Stacy Dekkers of Fairmont, Minn., in health and human performance/exercise science; Kelsy Harberts of Rochester, Minn., in health and human performance/health education; Denese Vanberg of Red Wing, Minn., in elementary education; Lindsay Day ad Richard Stewart of River Falls, in secondary education; and Genna Mosurinjohn of Stevens Point, in social work.
Graduate students who received outstanding student awards included: Maria Stark of Sauk Rapids, Minn., in communicative disorders; Theresa Ninneman of Fond du Lac, and Brooke Fails of St. Paul in school psychology; Ben Toppel of River Falls, for elementary education; Jennifer Weiss of Menomonie.
Several area professionals and educators were noted as outstanding cooperating professionals or outstanding placement supervisor in their fields: Counseling: Carol LeBo, a school counselor at Greenfield Elementary School, Baldwin ; School psychology: Heidi Springborg, a school psychologist with Mahtomedi (Minn.) Public Schools; Communicative disorders: Sharon Spence, a speech pathologist with Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, Minn .; Health and human performance: Stephanie Tolkinen, Pinecrest Elementary School, Hastings, Minn. ; Social work: Jane Danner, director of social services at Regina Medical Center, Hastings, Minn. ; Teacher education/elementary: Mary Eischens, Highwood Hills School, St. Paul ; Secondary education/social studies: Dave Schleh, New Richmond High School; Student teaching/early childhood education: Sue Haasis, Malone Elementary School, Prescott ; Student teaching/elementary education: Kelly Barkve, Vadnais Heights (Minn.) Elementary School ; Student teaching/middle school: Jan Pavlovski, Ellsworth Middle School; Student teaching/high school: Amy Childers, Hastings (Minn.) High School.
