Campus Award Ceremonies Span Spring
APRIL 14, 2008--With spring comes the conclusion to another academic year, and the University of Wisconsin-River Falls celebrating its students, faculty and staff throughout April and May culminating with Commencement May 17.
The College of Business and Economics reception for its current undergraduate students and master's of management graduates is April 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the Riverview Ballroom at the University Center. The program follows at 7 p.m. Awards include academic merit honors, departmental and program awards, scholarship recipients, and induction Beta Gamma Sigma, a business management and administration honor society for business programs accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International. In addition, all graduates seeking their master's degree in the college will be giving presentations. The College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences Awards banquet is April 24 from 5 to 9:30 p.m. in the Riverview Ballroom, University Center. Awards presented include the CAFES Outstanding Teacher, the Wisconsin Distinguished Agriculturalist, the Rochelle Junkman Seymour Award honoring a graduating senior with the highest GPA, and the Dr. Earl Hildebrand Memorial Award honoring an outstanding senior as swell as college scholarships and senior graduation honors and other awards. A social hour will begin at 5 p.m. and a dinner program follows at 5:45 p.m. Melissa Ploeckelman, an agricultural education major from Stetsonville , and Bradley Novachek, an agricultural education major from Hillsboro , will serve as master of ceremonies, with entertainment by pianist Kyle McCarville, a horticulture major from Mineral Point . A luncheon to honor 2007 retirees and employees' years of service at UW-River Falls will be held on May 1 at noon in the Riverview Ballroom of the University Center. The ceremony recognizes years and service and retirements from the classified staff, academic staff and faculty employee classifications. For more information, call 715-425-3201.
A recognition ceremony and reception for this year's Chancellor's Award for Students is May 1 at 6 p.m., in the Riverview Ballroom, University Center. This year nine students from among the four colleges have been chosen for this prestigious award.
The College of Arts and Sciences will be holding a block party to celebrate graduates, and all students from the college on May 2 from 3 to 5:30 p.m. The event will take place in the University Center mall if the weather permits; if rain, it will be held in the Falcon's Nest in the University Center. The event will include a Chartwell's barbeque and a live band, Gazillion. Commemorative T-shirts will be for sale. The College of Education and Professional Studies awards banquet this year will be an ice cream social held on May 8 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Wyman Education Building. Awards include recognition of all graduates from the graduate school and bachelor's programs as well as Outstanding Cooperating Professional awards, Outstanding Student award, GPA awards, honors program recognition, and the Rochelle Junkman Seymour Award honoring a graduating senior with the highest GPA. Spring Commencement is May 17, with ceremonies at 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the Robert P. Knowles Physical Education and Recreation Center. The morning ceremony presents the graduates of the colleges of agriculture, food, and environmental studies, business and economics, and graduate studies. The afternoon session presents the graduates of the colleges of arts and sciences, and education and professional studies. The UWRF Distinguished Alumni award will also be announced. Adequate seating is usually available for commencement; therefore, no reserved seating is provided nor are tickets required for guests. There is a special brunch for the students and their families from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Riverview Ballroom in the University Center. The meal costs: Adults $13.75 and children $7.25.
