Students Gear Up for Juried Exhibit
By Rachel Hafele
APRIL 14, 2008--The University of Wisconsin-River Falls Art department presents the 2008 Juried Student Exhibition April 18 through May 7 in Gallery 101 in the Kleinpell Fine Arts Building on campus.
Each year, UWRF art students submit artwork, ceramics, photography, drawing and painting, fibers, glass, jewelry/metals, computer design and printmaking, to be presented before an art professional, who serves as juror and selects the pieces for the exhibition.
"We believe it helps to validate the student accomplishments to invite in an outside juror," said Michael Padgett, an art professor and chairperson of the art department. "We seek a professional artist from outside the University; sometimes a faculty member from another institution, sometimes a locally/regionally prominent artist, or gallery or museum curator."
This year the invited juror is Robert Tom, chair of the art department at Augsburg College. On April 16, from 3 to 5 p.m. Tom will select entries for special recognition and speak with the students about those choices. He will also discuss with the students their processes for individual work for submission.
"The exhibit is exciting for our students and well received by the campus community," says Padgett. "These annual exhibits emphasize the excellent quality of the studio work being done by the students in our department and reflect positively on the work of our art faculty."
Gallery hours are Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. and 2 - 4 p.m. Sunday. For more information contact the Art Department at 715-425-3266.
