Unity in Community at UWRF is April 23
APRIL 14, 2008--The University of Wisconsin-River Falls will celebrate diversity with the annual Unity in the Community even on April 23 beginning at 10 a.m. on the mall of the University Center.
Visitors to UWRF will have the chance to experience a wide variety of cultural and ethnic events. Beginning the events will be a performance by the Break Dance Club. At 10:25 a.m. Joe Lande, a UWRF senior majoring in English, will recite poetry. At 10:40 a.m. the Desi Student Organization will be doing an Eastern Indian dance work called "Color Celebration."
At 11 a.m. the St. Croix Chippewa Indians of Wisconsin will present a Pow Wow, followed by the Kappa Alpha Psi from the University of Minnesota performing its steps at noon.
The UWRF Dance Club will perform at 12:30 p.m., with a UWRF Swing Dance Club performance following at 1 p.m. The last performance of the day will be the UWRF Jazz Ensemble at 1:30 p.m.
The movie "The Kite Runner" will be shown in the Kinnicinnic Theater in the University Center throughout the afternoon and evening. Around 3 p.m. state Sen. Sheila Harsdorf (R-River Falls) will give a presentation on Darfur. To find specific start times visit the events calendar at http://sa.uwrf.edu/ssp/ .
The Gyoto Monks will be creating sand art in the University Center, and the UC will be the site of information displays by student organizations and free bike tune-ups by the UWRF ECO Club.
The celebration will continue at 5:30 p.m. at Veteran's Park in downtown River Falls with other events and entertainment.
