Observatory Talk Scheduled

NOV. 30, 2007-- The next viewing session and lecture at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Observatory will feature "The Star of Bethlehem" topic at 7:30 p.m. on the first clear night of Dec. 10-13.

A half-hour talk by a member of the UWRF physics department will precede the viewing where participants will see the new to crescent moon, as well as Mars and other celestial bodies.

This event is held as part of the year-long observatory series hosted at UW-River Falls. All talks are held in room 271 of Centennial Science Hall, and viewing sessions take place on the outdoor third floor deck of the building.

Observatory sessions are free and open to the public, and all ages are welcome to attend. Attendees are advised to wear weather-appropriate clothing. Viewers can expect to see a selection of deep sky objects, such as galaxies, nebulae and star clusters. A physics department faculty member, student or guest astronomer will staff each telescope and be available to answer any questions. Observers are encouraged to stay and look at as many elements as possible and feel free to request personal observing targets.

The UWRF Observatory houses a 16-inch Meade computer-controlled LX200GPS Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope and two 12-inch Meade LX200 telescopes that are usually mounted on the observing deck during public stargazing sessions.
