Jessica Pries, a horticulture major from Eyota, Minn., placed third in the judging contest. Pries explained the contest helps participants develop a critical eye. "I am very excited for this award," said Pries. "It tells me that I have a well-trained critical eye and excel at distinguishing what is quality and what is not." In addition to the contest new MACHS officers were elected. Walter Taylor, a sophomore majoring in agricultural education from Cleveland, Wis., was elected as the communication officer. Outgoing chairperson was Amanda Reckner, a junior horticulure major from West Bend, Wis. Pries explained that it was nice to have the chance to network with other horticulture society members and to meet new people in the industry from around the Midwest.
