Music Department Offers Melodious Fall Entertainment

SEPT. 21, 2007--During the day, the halls of the Kleinpell Fine Arts building at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls resound with the racket of hurried footsteps and cell phone conversations. At night, however, the building's Abbott Concert Hall will be ringing with the sounds of music this fall as the Music Department's lineup of performances begin. All performances held in the concert hall and are free unless otherwise noted,

·Sept. 23, 7:30 p.m., Guest Piano Recital: Georgina Zellan-Smith. New Zealand pianist Georgina Zellan-Smith will perform a solo concert featuring music of Chopin, Schumann, Grieg, and Beethoven.

·Oct. 4, 7:30 p.m., Shape Shifting. This event is a multi-disciplinary theatrical piece featuring the newly formed music ensemble Zeitgeist, composer and computer musician Scott Miller, and poet Philippe Costaglioli, and videographer Ron Gregg. This unique event involves live music, electronic music, spoken word and video, all merged into one evening-length theatrical presentation.

·Oct. 11, 7:30 p.m., RADD Jazz Concert Series.

·Oct. 13, 7:30 p.m., Homecoming Concert: Jazz Ensemble and Symphonic Wind Ensemble. Admission: adults $5, seniors $3, students with campus ID $2.

·Oct. 14, 3:00 p.m., Homecoming Choral Concert: Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, Women's Chorus, Men's Chorus, Alumni Choir. This year's annual Homecoming Concert will feature the dedication of the Elliot R. Wold Choir Room. Wold, a dedicated professor emeritus at UWRF, broadened the horizons of many musically-gifted students and alumni by hosting tours to Europe and the Far East for the concert choir and chamber singers. He also began taking the alumni choir on summer tours to Europe in 1984. A reception will be held in the lobby adjacent to the concert hall following the concert. Admission: adults $5, seniors $3, students with campus ID $2.

·Oct. 18, 7:30 p.m., Faculty Recital: Roger McVey. Roger McVey, faculty piano teacher, will present a solo concert featuring the music of Bach, Rachmaninoff, Miksch, and Liszt.

·Oct. 21, 3:00 p.m., Guest Tuba Recital: Kenyon Wilson

·Nov. 1, 7:30 p.m., A Tribute to John Zdechlik. This concert features music department faculty Andy Parks, horn, and Rick Gaynor, euphonium.

·Nov. 4, 3 p.m., Beethoven, Handel, and More! Admission: adults $5, seniors $3, students with campus ID $2.

·Nov. 4, 7:30 p.m., Senior Recital: Tricia Turner (tentative)

·Nov. 5, 7:30 p.m., Music From the New Czech Republic

·Nov. 8, 7:30 p.m., River Falls Brass Concert

·Dec. 2, 3:00 p.m. and 7:30 pm., Holiday Choral Concerts: Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, Women's Chorus, Men's Chorus. Admission: adults $5, seniors $3, students with campus ID $2.

·Dec. 10, 7:30 p.m., Holiday Extravaganza! St. Croix Valley Symphony Orchestra Concert. Admission: adults $5, seniors $3, students with campus ID $2.
