'High School Musical' Opens July 31 at SCVST

JULY 20, 2007--Area fans who've seen the magic of Disney's "High School Musical" on the small screen will have the chance to see its cast of characters brought to life with St. Croix Valley Summer Theatre's next production, which opens on July 31 at the University of Wisconsin - River Falls.

"High School Musical" is among the most successful Disney Channel movies of all time, with 7.7 million people viewing its premiere. The soundtrack to the film was the best-selling album of 2006. The movie also received numerous awards, including the 2006 Billboard Music Award for Best Soundtrack, an Emmy Award for Outstanding Children's Program, and three Teen Choice Awards for Television - Choice Breakout Star (Zac Efron), Television - Choice Chemistry (Vanessa Anne Hudgens & Zac Efron), and Television - Choice Comedy/Musical Show. The sequel to the film is set to debut on the Disney Channel on Aug. 17.

Featured in SCVST's 'High School Musical' are Colin Hutchins, of Baldwin, Wis., as Troy; Bre Graham, of Woodbury, Minn., as Gabriella; Gina Hanzlik, of Somerset, Wis., as Sharpay; Jon Stiff, of St. Francis, Minn., as Sharpay's twin brother, Ryan; and Sandee Blakeley, of River Falls, Wis., as Ms. Darbus.

Performances are 7:30 p.m. July 31 and Aug. 1-5 and 8-11 in the Blanche Davis Theatre at the Kleinpell Fine Arts Building. An Aug. 5 matinee is sold out.
