SCVST Thanks Donors for Season's Assistance
By Lisa Stratton
JULY 13, 2007--Without the support of the many area businesses, individuals and theatre patrons in the region, the St. Croix Valley Summer Theatre might never have survived for 41 years. As one of the oldest theatre troupes in the Upper Midwest, SCVST was founded in 1966 in order to supply quality theatre experiences to the residents of the St. Croix Valley region. Organizers want to thank the generous turnout of individuals and businesses who supported the 2007 season.
The theatre company of about 70 members operates out of the University of Wisconsin - River Falls, and producing up to four shows per summer is a costly venture for such a relatively small group, say the organizers.
One of the most recent contributors to SCVST is UWRF Chancellor Don Betz and his wife, Susanne.
"Susanne and I have truly enjoyed the array of energetic productions offered by SCVST over the past three summers that we have lived in River Falls. This program connects the community, region and the university and showcases a broad spectrum of talent," says Betz. "We encourage everyone who loves live theater to support SCVST."
In addition to individual support, local businesses that advertise in the SCVST program are valued as well.
"Advertisers in this summer's program know their ads will be in the hands of more than 5,000 patrons throughout the summer," says Melanie Nelson, SCVST marketing director. "Even more importantly these businesses are directly supporting art in our community. Without their dedicated backing, St. Croix Valley Summer Theatre wouldn't be 41 years old and wouldn't be the professional theatre that it is today."
