Ag Tech Contest Scholarship Awarded
JUNE 1, 2007--Erin Merritt, Senior at Menomonie High School, is the recipient of the 2007 Agricultural Technology Contest Scholarship for $500 from the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences (CAFES) Alumni Association at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
The 47th Annual Agricultural Technology Contest, sponsored by CAFES at the University of Wisconsin - River Falls was held on March 31, 2007. The contest included 62 schools from Wisconsin and Minnesota with 906 high school students participating. The contest is chaired by Agricultural Education Associate Professor Tim Buttles.
Erin Merritt submitted an application and written essay on the topic of "Explain how the skills learned through competing in this contest area will assist in achieving your career goals." Erin's contest area was Dairy Cattle Evaluation, where she received the highest individual score and a superior rating. Her essay was evaluated by the CAFES Scholarship Committee and selected for this scholarship award. There were 14 individuals who were eligible to apply for this scholarship.
Steve Carlson, professor of Agronomy and Co-Chair of the CAFES Scholarships Committee presented Erin Merritt with this honor on Saturday, May 19, 2007 at the Menomonie FFA 50 th Anniversary celebration.
