CAS Bestows Student Awards
By Meghan Dusek
APRIL 30, 2007--The walls of the Abbott Concert Hall at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls reverberated with applause during the College of Arts and Sciences Awards Reception, held on Tuesday, April 24.
CAS Dean Terry Brown opened the ceremony: "These are the students who turned their work in on time...most of the time; who showed up and paid attention; who have worked hard to be recognized here tonight. On behalf of the College of Arts and Sciences: Good job."
Provost Charles Hurt took the place of Chancellor Don Betz for the night, noting the Chancellor's travel schedule this semester is "just a little crazy." Hurt initiated applause for the other, less recognized groups of the night--first for the faculty, "who make it work," and secondly for the parents, friends and significant others whose support is indispensable.
Associate Deans Douglas Johnson and Brad Caskey assisted in presenting the awards, the former by reading and the latter by handing awards to Brown.
Brown closed the ceremony by once again congratulating the students: "You are the reason we, the teachers, get up in the morning and come here. Your accomplishments and dedication inspire us and make us proud!"
The Rochelle Junkman Seymour Award was given to those students with the highest collegiate grade point average, including: Andrea K. Crownhart of Elmwood, Wis., Heidi D. Vogel of Cottage Grove, Minn., and Tara L. Zwiefehofer of Bloomer, Wis.
