Chartwells Tasting Event Attracts Curious, Hungry
DEC. 7, 2006--Some 300 students, faculty and staff stood in line with culinary anticipation at Chartwells Dining Service Sneak Peek Taste Preview Dec. 6 in the Hagestad Student Center, according to Chartwell's new marketing manager Kevin "KT" Tlougan, a 1999 graduate of UWRF who was hired last month.
Featured were Chartwells proprietary retail brands including Zona Mexicana, Freshens Smoothie Company, Coyote Jack's Grill, Mamma Leone's, Mondo Subs and Outtakes. Chartwells Chef Angel Alcantar promoted the healthy veggie sub, made with hummus, cucumber, onions, green peppers, carrots, tomatoes and guacamole. The new retail outlets will be located in the new University Center, set to open in time for spring semester in January.
"It was all very good," said Jan Aamodt, a Spring Valley resident who is an operations associate in the Office of Public Safety. Aamodt noted that her favorites were the pizza from Mamma Leone's, the cheeseburger from Coyote Jack's, and the sub sandwiches from Mondo Subs. "I told my coworker who couldn't attend, 'We will have no problem finding something that we like to eat in the new University Center.'"
"The concepts and products are a little different," said Mike Owen, Chartwell's production manager. "With the move to the new University Center and changes in residential dining options it will be a nice challenge to get it all up and running." Minneapolis-based Caribou Coffee will also be located in the center, and samples of its fair trade and organic certified coffee were available at the event.
