Homecoming 2006 Events Set

OCT. 6, 2006--Join the UW-River Falls campus in celebrating its homecoming week Oct. 16-21 culminating with the football game against the UW-Stout Blue Devils at Ramer Field at 1 p.m. on Oct. 21. Students, alumni, family, friends and community members are welcome to share in the celebration.

The theme for this year's festivities is, "Showdown at the RF Corral." New this year is the return of the traditional homecoming parade, running from downtown River Falls to campus on Oct. 21 at 10:30 a.m.

On Monday, Oct. 16, the celebration starts early at 9 a.m. with a campus-wide medallion hunt. Clues for the game are given out Monday through Thursday (Oct. 16-19) at 9 a.m. at the Hagestad Info Desk. The hunt will end, and the winner of a $50 prize will be posted at 4 p.m. Thursday Oct. 19.

Mary Mack, a widely known folk humorist, will take the stage and deliver her stand up comedy at 7 p.m. in North Hall Audtorium on Wednesday, Oct. 16. She will also hosting a lip sync competition in North Hall Auditorium.

The medallion hunt and Mack's performance, along with many other activities during the week, leads up to Friday, Oct. 20 with a concert by the Johnny Holm Band at 9 p.m. in the Knowles Arena. Some describe the Johnny Holm Band as "the most entertaining band they have ever seen," according to the band's Web site.

On Saturday, Oct. 21, the real festivities begin with an alumni and friends welcome reception in the Falcon's Nest of the Student Center, campus tours at 9:30 a.m. leaving from the Falcon's Nest, followed by the parade and a BBQ cookout at 10:30 a.m. The BBQ cookout in front of the Student Center Mall goes from 10:30 a.m. to the 1 p.m. game start. At half-time, the homecoming coronation of royalty candidates will take place on Ramer Field.

A homecoming concert by the UW-RF Symphony Band and Jazz Ensemble, directed by Kristin Tjornehoj and David Milne, is at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 21 in the William Abbott Concert Hall in the Kleinpell Fine Arts Building. On Sunday, Oct. 22, the Homecoming Choral Concert, directed by J.W. Park, Sarah Parks, Nathan Leaf and Elliot Wold, will be at 3 p.m. in Abbott Concert Hall. Tickets for each concert is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and $2 for students and are available at the door. For more information contact the music department at 715-425-3183.
