Summer 2006 Events at UW-RF

MAY 12, 2006--The University of Wisconsin-River Falls offers a variety of cultural activities, academic programs, and entertainment throughout the summer 2006. Visit www.uwrf.edu for more information.

JUNE

1                       Community Education Online Graduate Certificate Program Begins. Classes include Introduction to Service-Learning (TED 721), Advanced Service-Learning (TED 722), Service-Learning Reflection--Brain-based and Community Partnerships (TED 724), Service-Learning Research, Evaluation and Assessment (TED 723) and Service-Learning Practicum (TED 725). 2-3                    First Annual KinniFest. June 2, 6-9 p.m. Free. Music in Veterans Park and Riverwalk dedication, River Falls. June 3, Free. 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Glen Park, River Falls. Nature hikes, historical displays, art exhibit, birdwatching, hawk demonstration, rock and fossil identification, children's events, wild food tasting, wild plant identification and much more. 7-8                    St. Croix Summer Institute Watershed Natural History Field Workshop. $99. Explore Interstate Park and the Dalles of the St. Croix in Taylors Falls, Minn., and St. Croix Falls, Wis., and then the Kinnickinnic River in Pierce County with Professors Mike Middleton and Kerry Keen. 17                     St. Croix Valley Summer Theatre 40 th Anniversary Season. "Love Letters" by A.R. Gurney. Directed by Michael Norman. 7:30 p.m., Northern Lakes Center for the Arts, Amery, $5 adults, $1 children. 715-248-6811. A romantic story that details the lifelong correspondence and bittersweet relationship Andrew Makepeace Ladd III and Melissa Gardner. Features veteran SCVST actors Mike Norman and Sandee Blakeley. Also performed in other communities June 23, 24, and July 26 as well as in the Blanche Davis Theatre, Kleinpell Fine Arts Building, UW-River Falls campus June 29 - July 1 (see additional entries).  

17                     UW Big Reunion III Brewers Baseball Game. Join alumni from all UW System universities and colleges for a pre-game tailgate picnic and Brewers game. $40 per person for the picnic and a seat in the Loge Outfield Box. 22-24; 26-28    Residential Design Course. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., UW-River Falls. Non-credit fees is $280; contact the office of outreach and graduate students for current tuition rates. Eric Sanden, professor of land use planning at UW-River Falls. will explore the aesthetic and environmental sensibilities of a region's population as reflected in residential development as well as economic and social realities of the times. 23                     St. Croix Valley Summer Theatre 40 th Anniversary Season. "Love Letters" by A.R. Gurney. 26                     Athletic Department Golf Outing. All alumni and friends of Falcon athletics are invited to attend the 20 th annual Falcon Varsity Club Golf Outing at the River Falls Golf Club. 29-July 1          St. Croix Valley Summer Theatre 40 th Anniversary Season. "Love Letters" by A.R. Gurney. Directed by Michael Norman. A romantic story that details the lifelong correspondence and bittersweet relationship Andrew Makepeace Ladd III and Melissa Gardner. The show will tour several western Wisconsin cities in early June. Features veteran SCVST actors Mike Norman and Sandee Blakeley. Individual tickets are from $15 to $5; season tickets available. 6-15                  St. Croix Valley Summer Theatre 40 th Anniversary Season. "Forever Plaid." Directed by Twin Cities freelance director/choreographer Randy Winkler. Much-loved musical following the lives of four 1950s crooners who finally get a chance to record their one and only album. Includes great standards such as "Catch a Falling Star" and "Love is a Many-Splendored Thing."   Individual tickets are from $15 to $5; season tickets available. 9-14                  2006 Alumni Fishing Trip, Wiley Point Lodge, Sioux Narrows, Ontario Canada. All alumni and friends of are invited to join the third annual Canadian fishing adventure. Join expert fisher and retired UW-RF Professor Jim Helminiak and others for the fishing trip of a lifetime. Cost TBA. 18                     Summer Series Concert: River Falls Brass. Free. 7 p.m. Wall Amphitheatre, UW-RF. Rain site: Brandy's in the Hagestad Student Center. Popular jazz quintet composed of UW-RF faculty members including Tom Barnett and Craig Hara on trumpet, Andy Parks on horn, Rick Gaynor on trombone, and Chuck Wazanowski on tuba. Since January 2002 the group has presented concerts and clinics throughout western Wisconsin and the Twin Cities and recently been a featured performing group at the Composers Society International Conference, the Wisconsin Music Educators Conference, the Hawaii International Conference on Arts and Humanities in Honolulu. 20-29                St. Croix Valley Summer Theatre 40 th Anniversary Season. "Sisters of Swing" by Beth Gilleland, Bob Beverage and Ron Peluso. Directed by Twin Cities director and Company B performer Rosy Kirk. Music director is Linda Short. A musical tracing the lives of Maxine, Patty and LaVerne Andrews as they become the 1940s singing sensations of such classic hits as "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree" and "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy." AUGUST

4-12                  St. Croix Valley Summer Theatre 40th Anniversary Season. "Disney's Beauty and the Beast." Directed by freelance director, acting instructor and artistic director of Theatre Ppro Rata Carin Bratlie. An area premiere of the megamusical featuring familiar characters such as Mrs. Potts, Lumiere, Chip, Belle, and of course, the Beast. Fabulous costumes and favorite numbers including "Be Our Guest" and "No Matter What." A delightful production appealing to all ages. Individual tickets are from $15 to $8; season tickets available.
