Student Artists Receive Awards at Juried Show
By Katie Bild
UW-RF University Communications
MAY 5, 2006--For nearly 30 years, the Juried Student Exhibition has been
a much-anticipated tradition for University of Wisconsin-River Falls student
artists. Merit awards and two University purchases were chosen from a
variety of student works.
The juror for the exhibition this year was regional artist Erika Spitzer-Rasmussen.
She selected exhibits for the show including photography, clay, drawings,
paintings, fibers, glass, printmaking and metals. In July, Spitzer-Rasmussen
will be leading a seminar in the national 2006 Art Cloth Symposium at
the Textile Center in Minneapolis, Minn.
There were 14 merit awards given, one in each category at the exhibition.
Two pieces were selected by the UW-RF administration for purchase and
will be entered in the University's permanent collection. Ginny Coombs,
provost and vice chancellor of academic affairs, presented the awards.
The two-dimensional work selected for the collection for the second time
was a painting by Garrett Bergemann. He is a senior with a fine arts major
and is from Bloomington, Minn.
The three-dimensional award was a glass piece by Pauly Cudd. He is a River
Falls resident working on his post-baccalaureate certificate.
The show ran April 21-May 4 in Kleinpell Fine Arts Gallery 101. For more
information, contact the UW-RF art office at 715-425-3266.
