Final Student Reading Set
By Justine Benzen
UW-RF University Communications
APRIL 14, 2006--As the semester winds down, the final student readings
by University of Wisconsin-River Falls students is set for April 27 at
3:30 p.m. in the breezeway of the Chalmer Davee Library.
"The readings were again very successful this year, with visiting
writers and our own writing students, continuing to create a strong sense
of community among writers, including writers in the River Falls area,"
says Jennifer Brantley, advisor to the series and professor of English.
The series is an opportunity for all UW-RF students to read original poetry,
short fiction and creative nonfiction to fellow students, faculty, staff
and community members.
"The readings are a good opportunity to hear and to connect with
students' intellectual life without being in the classroom," says
Brantley.
Brantley says this will be the last reading series for a while. She is
taking a sabbatical in the fall; therefore, the series will be on a break
for the first time in 10 years.
The series began in fall 1996, with small audiences of 10-15 people in
attendance. The audience size now ranges from 30 to 100 people, says Brantley.
Typical readings are 45 minutes to an hour in length.
Readings are free and open to the community. An open mike follows the
student readings, allowing others to read or discuss works. The reading
series is organized by students; Brantley advises the group.
Students who will read on April 27 are:
Lindsey Decker, senior English major from Amery, Wis.
Jessi Finn, senior English major from Cambridge, Wis.
Rachel Hawkins, senior English major from Pine Island, Minn.
Mari Cook, senior English major from Oak Park Heights, Minn.
Angela Felton, senior English major from Baldwin, Wis.

at 715-425-3173 or email at jennifer.s.Brantley@uwrf.edu.
