Road Trip Reality Successful

MARCH 31, 2006--For University of Wisconsin seniors nearing graduation in May, the "Road Trip to Reality" event helped prepare them for the real world. Many students took advantage of the different resources that were offered throughout the day.

Mock interviews were conducted from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Some 95 students took advantage of this resource and interview with human resourcerepresentatives from around the area. After the interview, students were given a critique on their performance to help them in future interviews. An alumni-networking lunch also took place during the day.

Thirty-six students were in attendance to network with people from their area of study. Six alumni representing different businesses and industry gave presentations and answered questions at the lunch. Steve Wilcox, a 1974 graduate from Hudson, Wis. and Derek Cherney, a 1993 graduate from Medina, Minn., answered business questions at the luncheon. Jim Tiedke, a 1981 graduate from River Falls, Wis., covered the agriculture industry. Sarah Egerstrom a 2000 graduate from River Falls, Wis., addressed marketing communications; Rusty Helland, a 1982 graduate from Baldwin, Wis., talked about education careers and Maria Crownhart, a 1996 graduate from St. Paul, Minn., answered questions about chemistry.

Three presentations were attending by about 30 students, including "Understanding Employment Benefits," "How to Succeed in Your First Job," and a panel of HR experts.
