Chartwells Dining Service Receives Award
MARCH 24, 2006-- Chartwells Dining Services at the University of Wisconsin-River
Falls was honored for its work and dedication through the Be-A-Star program
sponsored by its national headquarters.
Chartwells units from across the country participate the Be-A-Star program
every year. UW-RF Chartwells was one of the five locations named a winner
of Star No. 2 for the central region.
The No. 2 star, called GUMBO, is an award for interaction of its staff
with its home campus.
UW-RF Chartwell staffers gave three weeks of Thanksgiving demonstrations,
which were called, "Cooking with Angel." The demonstrations,
headed up by Chef Angel Alcantar, were set up as TV show setting. The
first week was a demonstration of how to prepare and carve a turkey. The
student audience watched and participated in the event and sampled the
fixings.
The second week was devoted to side dishes, featuring sweet potato mousse
and cranberry relish. The third and final week was dedicated to desserts,
including pumpkin pie and apple crisp. Students were able to bring the
recipes and some samples home.
The event took place at the Cascade Café in Rodli Commons during
regular dinner hours, with approximately 125 students in attendance.
Other stars are awarded for employee recognition and community services.
This spring, Chartwells Dining Services is sponsoring a dinner that is
planned by the UW-RF Destination Gulf Coast organization. All of the proceeds
will go to the organization to help fund its relief trips to Gulf Port,
Miss., and other areas affected by Hurricane Katrina.
