Faculty Member to Present Guitar Recital
MARCH 10, 2006--University of Wisconsin-River Falls music department
faculty member Joseph Hagedorn will perform a solo recital on March 23
at 8 p.m. in the Abbott Concert Hall in the Kleinpell Fine Arts Building.
The event is free and open to the public.
The program will consist of music by Spanish composers Joaquin Rodrigo
and Antonio Jose, Argentina composer Alberto Ginastera and American composer
Frederic Hand.
Hagedorn's career was launched when he won the 1990 Guitar Foundation
of America solo competition. He has maintained an active performing schedule
as a soloist and a chamber musician. His appearances have taken him to
more than 25 American cities and to Canada.
Most recently, Hagedorn has been touring extensively with the Minneapolis
Guitar Quartet, which has released three CDs. During the 2004-06, MGQ
has presented concerts, master classes and educational programs in 18
states including performances with the Minnesota Orchestra, the St. Paul
Chamber Orchestra and the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra.
Hagedorn also arranges large catalogs of transcriptions for guitar quartet,
flute and guitar, and violin and guitar. In 1995 he was awarded a Minnesota
State Arts Board Fellowship.
Hagedorn received his bachelor of music degree from Cornell College in
Mt. Vernon, Iowa. He has been a member of the UW-River Falls music department
faculty since 1998.
