Political Cartoon Discussion Set
MARCH 3, 2006--Beginning at 2:30 p.m. this Thursday, March 9, in the President's Room of the Hagestad Student Center, the UW-River Falls Dean of Students Office will sponsor a forum examining the balance between freedom of the press and
respect for religious beliefs.
The Feb. 24 edition of the campus newspaper, the Student Voice, featured a political cartoon and accompanying editorial concerning the protests that resulted from caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad that originally appeared
in a Danish newspaper. The editorial stated that, "our hope is that readers will use this cartoon as a starting point for discussion." The goal of this forum is to take the next step in that discussion.
The forum, moderated by political science Associate Professor Wes Chapin, will include:
* Professor Colleen Callahan, Journalism Department Chair
* Dr. Imtiaz Moosa, Professor of Philosophy
* Eric Ebert and Chris Rogers, Student Voice staff members
* Kadar Hussein and Sanaa Jaman, members of the African American Alliance.
For more information, contact the Dean of Students Office at 715/425-3711.
