Coffee with 'The Times' features Chancellor Betz

FEB. 24, 2006--The American Democracy Project and the New York Times Readership Program at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls is sponsoring a news series on University Communications, current events and cultural topics called "Coffee with 'The Times'" in the Chalmer Davee Library Atrium on campus throughout the 2006 spring semester.

On March 6 at 3:30 p.m. Chancellor Don Betz will present "Challenges and Opportunities in the Middle East." Betz will facilitate a discussion on the changing face of Palestinian politics   and its impact on Palestianian and Israeli relations,   including the election of Hamas, was well as the recent cartoon incident and   Iran and the west.

Upcoming events in the series include:

On March 22 at 3:30 p.m. Michele McKnelly, government documents librarian, will lead a discussion on "Obituaries in 'The Times.'"

On March 29 at 3:30 p.m. Ogden Rogers, professor of social work, will present "Katrina/Rita: Response, Recovery, Controversy."

On April 13 at 11:15 a.m. Blake Fry, dean of student development and campus diversity and member of the Center for Victims of Torture, will present "Life after Torture: Political Oppression in Africa."

The "Coffee with 'The Times'" series is open to the public. Refreshments will be available at each discussion.
