Prizes will be awarded for top male and females in each age division, and there also will be a raffle to enter at the event. The age divisions are 16 and under, 17-29, 30-39, and 40 and over.
The students in the University's sport, fitness and recreation management course put the Turkey Trot together and several local businesses will sponsor the event.
"As students who will be going into sports and fitness fields, this is a great opportunity to be a part of planning and executing a recreational event," said Katie Bild, student race director.
The event is part of a host of weekend events including Family Day, a UW-RF home football game, men's and women's hockey game, and a UW-RF swim meet at the River Falls High School.
"The Turkey Trot is a way to join students, faculty, community members and alumni on campus and to help the victims of the hurricane. It is both a social event and an opportunity to be active," Bild said.
