STUDENT LEADERS ATTEND LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

SEPT. 30, 2005--The annual Fall Leadership Conference was held Sept. 24 at UW-River Falls with almost 100 participants. The conference was a way for new and continuing students to develop their leadership skills in a one-day workshop. Part of the day was spent listening to leadership consultant Harlan Cohen, who presented an interactive workshop on training for the sport of taking risks. The rest of the day was spent having lunch with faculty and staff, and attending four different seminars of the student's choice.

The goal of the Leadership Conference was to enhance personnel growth while developing leadership skills, said Brent Turner, UW-RF¹s Leadership Training Coordinator. Students were engaged in active learning through a variety of workshops presented by faculty, staff and students.

Gregg Heinselman, the new executive director of student programs presented two seminars, "Delegate Without Fear" and "Creativity: An Activity Back to the Crayon."   Other included "Investing Basics for College Students," "Army ROTC," "Diversity for the New Generation," and "Civic Engagement: American Democracy Project."

"I believe everyone can be a leader; it just takes knowledge and learning to foster those qualities," said Turner. "Leadership '05 was a great experience for these students, and the learning didn't end with the end of the conference."
