SEPT. 30, 2005--Readings by University of Wisconsin-River Falls student writers and authors are scheduled for fall semester through the UW-RF Reading Series. The first reading is scheduled for Oct. 14 at 3:30 p.m. in the breezeway of the Chalmer Davee Library.

The series is an opportunity for all UW-RF students to read original poetry, short fiction and creative nonfiction to fellow students, faculty, staff and community members. Guest poets and writers are also invited to read once a semester.

"The readings are a good opportunity to hear and to connect with students'

intellectual life without being in the classroom," said English Professor

Jennifer Brantley.

The series began in fall 1996, with small audiences of 10-15 people in attendance. The audience size now ranges from 30 to 100 people, says Brantley. Typical readings are 45 minutes to an hour in length.

Readings are open to the community. An open mike follows the student readings, allowing others to read or discuss works. The reading series is currently organized by students. All advertising, promotion and announcements are created and sent out by students. Brantley advises the group.

For additional information, contact Brantley in the English Department at 715/425-3173 or email at .
