St. Croix Valley Chorus Performs Free Concert

JULY 10, 2005--More than 40 community members throughout the St. Croix Valley have been rehearsing twice a week since the beginning of summer for a concert of the St. Croix Valley Summer Chorus on Thursday, July 21 at 7:30 p.m. in Abbott Concert Hall in the Kleinpell Fine Arts Building at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Admission is free, and the concert is open to the public.

Paul Schaefer, UW-RF men's chorus director and a lecturer in the music department, has been the summer chorus director since 2002.

The chorus first performed in the early 1970s, led by music Professor Emeritus Elliot Wold, who responded to a community initiative and brought together summer school students and area residents. "I found a lot of enjoyment working with the group and felt it was important for the community," Wold said.

The chorus is a good opportunity for anyone in the community who wants to sing, Schaefer says. "It is a collaborative experience where a wide variety of singers feel free to offer input and suggestions to prepare for a fine concert," says Schaefer.

The St. Croix Valley Summer Chorus performs a variety of music including Brahm's gypsy songs, madrigals, contemporary folk songs, and ethnic songs.
