CER Examines "Escalation of Commitment"
APRIL 8, 2005--The UW-River Falls Center for Economic Research is holding
a seminar examining the escalation of commitment in software programs
on April 22 at 3:15 p.m. in Room 321 of South Hall.
Arpan Jani, professor of computer science and information systems, will
present, "Escalation of Commitment in Software Projects: Some Findings."
Jani investigates the reasons behind why people will continue a project
even while it is failing, a concept known as the escalation of commitment.
Jani looks into individual and project factors, which tend to affect project
managers and their decision to continue with a failing project. His findings
suggest some software programs suffer from this phenomenon.
The seminar is free and open to the public. The presentation will be preceded
by refreshments at 3 p.m. in Room 317 of South Hall.
For more information on the center or the seminar series, contact Hamid
Tabesh at 715/425-3335 or e-mail hamid.tabesh@uwrf.edu.
