Spring Dance Theatre Concert April 5-9
MARCH
17, 2005--The UW-RF Dance Theatre will present its annual spring concert
April 5 - 9 at 8 p.m in the Davis Theatre of the Kleinpell Fine Arts Building
on campus. The concert will consist of a unique blend of choreography
by faculty, students and special guests.
Guest choreographer Todd Bierbrauer will present "A Touch of Aloha,"
a cultural dance history and background performed in three sections. The
piece will begin with an opening chant "Ano Ai," which will
continue into an ancient Kaiko hula titled: "Ano Ai' Ku' I' We' I."
The midsection will consist of a song or Mele titled: "Lunaha'I."
Bierbrauer's piece will conclude with "Kuwili," which will feature
the use of bamboo sticks.
UW-RF dance instructor Torrion Amie and former UW-RF student Ricardo Suarez
will also showcase pieces. Amie will direct a tango-based ballroom dance.
Suarez, who has choreographed and danced at UW-RF since 1988, will present
"Serenities Oasis."
Student choreographers Nakati Kakosso and Ruby Lanoux will feature styles
ranging from African dance to contemporary lyrical styles. Dance Theatre
will also feature Lanoux in a solo piece. Mari Kline will conclude the
concert with a large group piece performed by the 32 members of Dance
Theatre.
Ticket prices are $5 for students and children and $7 for adults. Tickets
will be available Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
March 28-April 9, and Tuesday and Thursday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the box
office in the Kleinpell Fine Arts Building. They will also be sold at
the box office before each performance from 7 to 8 p.m. Ticket reservations
