UW-RF Hosts HS Forensics Tourney

MARCH 4, 2005--Fourteen area high schools participated in the annual forensics
tournament held Saturday, Feb. 12, at UW-River Falls.
Some 250 students from Wisconsin competed in 15 events. New Richmond High
School earned first place honors in the sweepstakes contest. Ellsworth
High School and St. Croix Falls High School tied for second and third
place honors.
In group events, Alma High School took first place in group interpretation
and Ellsworth took first place in play-acting.
First-place winners in individual events were: Brenna Martens, St. Croix
Falls, in demonstration speaking; Danielle Rieck, Ellsworth, in extemporaneous
speaking; Tim Cochrane, McDonell, in Farrago; Katie Gharrity, New Richmond,
in four-minute speech; Pat Gallichio, McDonell, in moments in history;
Olivia Bulava, Augusta, in oratory; Megan Cox-Shannon, New Richmond, in
oral interpretation of poetry; Alicia Britton, Baldwin-Woodville, in oral
interpretation of prose; Elise Pfaltzgraff, St. Croix Falls, in public
address; Sophia Grimm, Ellsworth, in solo acting; Ryan Stark, St. Croix
Falls, in special occasion speech; and Rachel Kerr, New Richmond, in radio
speaking and storytelling.
The UW-RF Forensics Team sponsored the tournament. James W. Pratt, UW-RF
professor of speech communications and theatre arts, served as tournament
director and was assisted by Kathleen Olsen, director of forensics at
UW-RF.
