UW-RF Students Receive National/Chapter AGR Scholarships

DEC. 3, 2004--Two University of Wisconsin-River Falls students received
national Alpha Gamma Rho scholarships, and two UW-RF students also received
AGR Alpha Psi campus chapter scholarships.
Kory Duerst, a junior agriculture studies major from Verona, Wis., received
the $500 AGR Dairy Scholarship.
The national AGR chapter awards only one dairy scholarship to an undergraduate
student in the nation, and typically preference is given to a student
from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
Established by agriculturist Ole Meland, the award honors an individual
who achieve high levels of excellence and pursue a major in dairy science,
dairy husbandry, or animal science with a dairy option or emphasis.
Jordan Donnerbauer, a junior agriculture education major from Marshfield,
Wis., received the $1,000 scholarship for AGR Excellence. One of four
scholarships awarded, this scholarship is awarded to individuals excelling
in scholarship, leadership, citizenship, activities and fraternal involvement.
The UW-River Falls AGR Chapter Alpha Psi also awarded campus $500 scholarships
to two incoming freshmen involved in the College of Agriculture, Food
and Environmental Sciences or involved in AGR.
Derek Husmoer, a freshman agricultural engineering major from Blair, Wis.,
and Brian Hoffelt, a freshman animal science/pre-vet major from Bruce,
Wis., received the campus scholarships.
AGR, a national agriculture organization, celebrated its 100th year in
2004. AGR's Educational Foundation was founded in 1965 to provide financial
support for educational and leadership purposes, to aid and assist needy
and deserving students in securing a better education, and to promote
and encourage scientific, philosophic and literary endeavors.
