Holiday Events Set at UW-RF

NOV. 12, 2004--Take in a concert, performance or art sale and exhibit this holiday season on the UW-River Falls campus.

The annual Art Scholarship Sale is Dec.1 -12 in Gallery 101, Kleinpell Fine Arts Building in Gallery 101. A unique selection of quality work will be for sale, and proceeds will provide funding for student scholarships. Gallery hours are Monday - Friday, 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m., and Sunday, 2 - 4 p.m. For more information call 715/425-3266.

Music and non-music majors will perform in a percussion ensemble concert directed by UW-RF music faculty member Patti Cudd on Dec. 2 at 8 p.m. in the Abbott Concert Hall. The ensemble will perform many styles of music including compositions written especially for percussion and arrangements, from ragtime to jazz. The concert is free and open to the public; call 715/425-3183 for more information.

The University Theatre student group Masquer's presents Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol by Tom Mula at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 2 - 4 and 9 - 11 in the Davis Theatre in the Kleinpell Fine Arts Building. While most people know what happened to Scrooge, this play presents the story of Jacob Marley in his attempt to redeem himself by redeeming Scrooge. A holiday concert is presented by the St. Croix Valley Symphony Orchestra, conducted by UW-RF faculty member Kristin Tjornehoj, and the UW-RF Choral Ensembles, conducted by music faculty J.W. Park, Sarah Parks, and Paul Schaefer. The concert is Dec. 5 at 3 and 8 p.m. and Dec. 6 at 8 p.m. in the Abbott Concert Hall, Kleinpell Fine Arts Building. This choir has earned recognition as one of the top collegiate choirs in the Midwest and has received critical acclaim for its enthusiastic musicality and beautiful choral tone. A Festival of Brass will be held 8 p.m. on Dec.7 in the Abbott Concert Hall in the Kleinepell Fine Arts Building. Conducted by UW-RF music faculty Rick Gaynor, the Brass Ensemble is an auditioned group of 16 of the finest brass performers on campus.

A Convocation Student Recital will be presented by UW-RF music students at 3 p.m. Dec. 9 in the William Abbott Concert Hall. This concert is free and open to the public. For more information call 715/425-3183.

The UW-RF Symphonic Wind Band, conducted by faculty member Kristin Tjornehoj, will perform at 8 p.m. on Dec. 9 in the Abbott Concert Hall. The ensemble links audiences with composers of historically significant eras in addition to composers of today. The concert is free and open to the public. For more information call 715/425-3183.

The UW-River Falls Alumni Association will host a holiday event for alumni, family and friends at on Dec. 11 in the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre in Chanhassen, Minn.
