Next Meeting

The next Academic Staff Council meeting will be held in the Library Conference Room on April 24 th and will include the Inaugural Gift presentation at 3:00 PM.

Review of Wording in UWS 7
A resolution will be drafted and ASC will meet at a later date to proof and suggest changes to the draft.

Representative's Report (K. Gould-Speckman)
Minutes from the 3/16/06 meeting of Academic Staff Representatives are available online.

Upcoming Academic Staff Conferences:
2006 Conference – hosted at UW-Eau Claire, July 13 th – 14 th
2007 Conference – hosted at UW-Superior, June 7 th – 8 th

Legislative Update (M. Kinders)
The legislature is currently dealing with the following topics:

  • Taxpayers Protection Amendment – The Chancellors are currently on a conference call, so more information is to come. If passed, it would cost UWRF, based on 1985-2005 numbers, approximately $5.5 million. The new Health and Human Performance building would be in serious trouble and tuition would be hit hard. M. Kinders suggested that ASC call a special meeting to discuss passing a resolution about TPA.
  • The Senate will not take up the collective bargaining agreement. No action will likely occur until the next session in January of 2007.

New Business (S. Egerstrom)
Elections for Academic Staff Council
Elections need to be held before the May meeting. There will be two openings. Watch for this information in the next month, nominate people in your areas, and encourage them to run for a seat. We need 4 people to run for 2 positions.

Continuing Business
Update on Academic Staff Orientation and Continuing Professional Development Opportunities (T. Tubré, K. Gould-Speckman, and J. Neuhaus)

Where to house this program is still on hold; Human Resources makes sense to some people. The mentor survey is going well and the instructional interviews will be completed in the next 2-3 weeks. The final report will be created at that time. This will lead up to dates for training in the fall. It is unsure if grants will be available for this program, because it is practice-oriented, and not data collection like what is currently happening.

Naming of Leadership Shelf in Library (S. Egerstrom)
The name of the collection will be the “Chancellor's Leadership Collection.”

Signage for Leadership Shelf (S. Egerstrom)
The library has ordered a sign from Facilities Management to be hung over the shelf. A framed sign will be hung on the wall next to the collection with a descriptive statement about why it was developed and by whom.

Adjourned at 3:20 PM. Motion made by K. Gould-Speckman. Seconded by C. Croonquist. Unanimously approved.
