Unit 10 - Harvesting

Objectives:

At the end of this unit, students will be able to:

1. Explain the purpose of a harvesting/logging plan, and why silviculture is such an important
consideration in the planning process.
2. Identify some of the general points included in a logging plan.
3. Summarized the basic steps involved in timber harvesting/logging, and the types of equipment
used.
4. List the basic steps recommended to take when selling timber.
5. Identify the need for and demonstrate the safe use of logging equipment (i.e. that is available)
and the use of personal protection equipment.
