Players of the Week

Nov. 3

Outside hitter Kelsey Scheele (Jr., Norwood, Minn. Mayer Lutheran HS) hit her 1,000th career kill at the Whitewater Invitational last weekend. Scheele, 5-7, reached the milestone in the team’s match against St. Ambrose on Friday. She now has 1,054 kills in her three-year career. She finished with 13 kills in that match. In four matches she had 58 kills, two assists, six aces, 83 digs and seven block assists. She led the Falcons in kills in every match and twice led the team in digs. She had 20 kills in a win over Concordia and 31 digs in a win over Elmhurst. This year Scheele leads the Falcons with 447 kills, 40 aces and 512 digs.

Oct. 27

Outside hitter Kelsey Scheele (Jr., Norwood, Minn. Mayer Lutheran HS) led the Falcons in kills in all five matches played last week. She had 15 in the team’s WIAC win at Stout and finished with 16 in a loss to North Central. She finished with 63 kills and averaged 3.15 per set. Scheele, 5-7, also led the Falcons in digs in three matches. She had 21 in the win over Stout. She also finished with eight block assists. This year Scheele leads the team in kills (389) and digs (429).

Oct. 20

Outside hitter Kelsey Scheele (Jr., Norwood, Minn. Mayer Lutheran HS) played well for the Falcons in two WIAC matches last weekend. Against La Crosse she led all players with 20 kills and a .405 hitting percentage. Scheele, 5-7, also led the Falcons with 18 digs. In the two matches she had 23 kills, twp aces. 28 digs and six block assists. This year Scheele leads the team with 326 kills and 354 digs.

Oct. 13

Outside hitter Kelsey Scheele (Jr., Norwood, Minn. Mayer Lutheran HS) had a great hitting week for the Falcons. In five matches she had 70 kills and finished with a .416 hitting percentage. Her best effort was in a WIAC match against UW-Eau Claire when she had 22 kills and a .636 hitting percentage. She also led the team in digs in the match (17). Scheele, 5-7, led UWRF in kills in four of the team’s five matches. She also led the Falcons in aces in two matches and in digs in two matches. She averaged 3.88 kills and 3.05 digs per match. This year she leads the team in kills (303), aces (28), and digs (326).

Oct. 6

Outside hitter Kara Buffington (Fr., Hudson, Wis.) played well in two WIAC matches last week. She had nine kills in the team’s three set to none win over UW-Superior at the Karges Center. She also led the team with 13 kills in UWRF’s three sets to two loss at UW-Stevens Point on Saturday. She finished the week with a total of 22 kills, seven digs, and three block assists. “She made herself a strong offensive option for us,” Falcon Coach Patti Ford said.

Sept. 29

Middle hitter Gina DeRosa (Jr., Maplewood, Minn. North St. Paul HS) played well in four matches at the Central Tournament last weekend in Pella, Iowa. She played great defense at the net leading the Falcons in blocks in all four matches. She had four solo blocks and six block assists in a 3-1 win over St. Olaf. She had 10 kills, three solo blocks and two block assists in a 3-2 win over Buena Vista. She finished the week with 17 kills, a .197 hitting percentage, nine solo blocks and 12 block assists. She was named to the All-Tournament team. This season she is averaging 2.16 kills and .93 blocks a set.

Sept. 22

Right side hitter Andria Vetsch (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn. Richfield HS) played well in two WIAC matches last week. The Falcons lost at No. 12 ranked Whitewater, 3-1, and at No., 10 ranked Oshkosh, 3-0. She played in every set and had 14 kills and a .181 hitting percentage. She had two aces, seven digs, one solo block and four block assists. This season Vetsch, 5-10, is averaging 2.02 kills and .52 blocks a set.

Sept. 15

Outside hitter Kelsey Scheele (Jr., Norwood, Minn. Mayer Lutheran HS) helped lead the Falcons to a 3-1 record at the Ripon Tournament last weekend. She was named to the All-Tournament team after leading the Falcons in kills in all four matches. She also led the Falcons in digs in three of the four matches. She averaged 3.69 kills and 4.07 digs per set. She finished with a .242 hitting percentage and had two service aces and two block assists.

Sept. 8

Outside hitter Kelsey Scheele (Jr., Norwood, Minn. Mayer Lutheran HS) led the Falcons to a satisfying 2-2 finish at the UWRF Invitational where she was named to the All-Tournament team. Scheele played in all 16 games and finished with a total of 46 kills, 46 digs and nine block assists. Her best match came against St. Catherine when she led the team in digs with 25 and had an impressive 13 kills as well.

Sept. 2

Middle hitter Gina DeRosa (Jr., Maplewood, Minn. North St. Paul HS) had a strong start to the 2008 season with her play at the St. Norbert Invitational where she was named to the All-Tournament team. DeRosa, 6-0, played in every set and finished with 50 kills and a .306 hitting percentage. Her best match was against Clarke when she had 18 kills and a .470 hitting percentage. She also played solid defense at the net and finished with two solo and seven block assists.
